The state of Minas Gerais, a major lithium producer in Brazil, would be the first in Latin America and the Caribbean to install a cluster of lithium batteries and electric vehicles, under the name "Colossus Cluster Minas Gerais".
The project was made official this morning through the signing of an agreement between Thiago Toscano, president of the Minas Gerais Investment and Trade Promotion Agency, and Eduardo Muñoz, CEO of Bravo Motor Company (BMC).
This gigafactory will be the first to establish three clusters in the region - located in Brazil - with a capacity of 35 GWh for each unit. According to reports from BMC, there are local groups that will be part of the investment.
The group's proposal aims to install the gigafactory in the industrial center of the Belo Horizonte international airport. In fact, today a framework agreement was signed for this purpose between Eduardo Muñoz, CEO of Bravo Motor Company and Rafael Laranjeira, Executive Manager of Airport Logistics Solutions.
Although Bravo Motor Company contributes all its technology, and that of the consortium of companies associated with the group to start the investment process, the firm is looking for new players, and potential clients, interested in completing the financing of the project, both companies in the automotive sector, with a great need for lithium batteries for the reconversion of their industries, service providers, and other items associated with electric mobility. Also from the energy sector that the State of Mina Gerais showed interest in convening.
It should be remembered that the idea was originally conceived for Argentina, taking advantage of its industrial capacities and the potential of lithium, but the lack of a regulatory framework and signals from successive governments made the company migrate to California, United States, from where currently runs its global operations.
BMC has the experience of having developed several electric vehicles, completing their production process, from design to manufacture, between 2008 and 2012, when it emigrated to California.
This, after the group was selected by the Department of Commerce in Washington under the Select USA program, and with the support of the California Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOBIZ). It is also part of the ecosystem of the Venture Lab of the University of California in Merced County.
